Accel Partners challenges the might of Silicon Valley

Accel

Accel Partners, one of Europe’s largest venture capital firms, has raised a new $500 million fund dedicated to investing in the continent’s digital start-ups, as it continues to hunt for technology champions that can challenge the global might of Silicon Valley’s biggest companies. In total, Accel Partners has raised $2.5 billion for European start-ups since it began investing in the region about 15 years ago. Globally, it has raised $11 billion to make investments since it was founded in 1983… Accel has backed groups including Swedish music streaming site Spotify, Finnish game developer Supercell and French ride-sharing group Blablacar, each of which have been valued in the billions of dollars by investors… Local European rivals include Index Ventures, Atomico and Balderton Capital.
