Amazon ramps up its battle with Netflix and Hulu

Amazon has launched its video streaming service as a standalone offering in the US, as it ramps up its battle with rivals including Netflix and Hulu. Previously, customers could only access the video service by signing up to Amazon Prime, a $10.99-a-month bundle that includes free shipping, music streaming and other perks. US customers will now be able to subscribe to the video service on its own for $8.99 a month. The move highlights Amazon’s ambitions to become a big player in video and follows its investments in exclusive shows such as TransparentMozart in the Jungle and The Man in the High Castle.
