Anki’s latest robot has raised $52 million

Anki

Anki, a San Francisco start-up whose toys are powered by artificial intelligence, has raised $52.5 million in its latest funding round, as it unveils its latest robot, Cozmo. JPMorgan led the round… brining the six-year-old company’s total investment to $182.5 million. Even as tech funding has waned in some once-hot areas such as on-demand delivery apps, venture capital has flooded into AI start-ups over the past 18 months… Cozmo, which will go on sale later this year, takes inspiration from Hollywood robots such as Star Wars’ R2-D2 and Pixar animated film Wall-E. The diminutive robot, little bigger than a Matchbox car, is able to recognise faces, compete in tabletop games against human players and learn new tricks via a connected smartphone.
