Apple will pay royalties to Ericsson

Apple Ericsson

Apple and Ericsson have reached an agreement on the US group’s use of technologies needed for its iPhones and iPads after settling a long-running legal dispute. The iPhone maker will pay the Swedish telecoms equipment maker to use mobile technology underpinning 2G and 4G connectivity for its mobile devices. The two groups have also agreed to work on developing next generation 5G services, which are expected to allow near instant mobile internet services. As part of a seven-year agreement, Apple will make an initial payment to the Swedish group and then pay royalties… The settlement will end patent-infringement claims between the companies… Ericsson has more than 35,000 global patents licensed to scores of companies that allow them to make handsets, although the level of payments are regularly disputed and can often lead to legal action.
