Snapchat adds video and audio calls

Snapchat has launched video and audio calls to compete with FaceTime, Skype and old fashioned phone lines, as part of a major update that sees the app once famous for disappearing photos move further into rivals’ territory. The LA-based start-up now also allows users to access web pages within the app for the first time, opening up the possibility for marketers to direct customers to shop online without leaving the Snapchat app. In a wide-ranging product update that it dubbed ‘Chat 2.0’, Snapchat said it aimed to be the second-best option to seeing friends face to face… Snapchat is one of the most valuable private tech start-ups, worth $15 billion at its last fundraising in May 2015… The updated app borrows many features popular in Asian chat apps such as Tencent’s WeChat and the Japanese app Line…
